What is The Mustang Way?

The Mustang Way (PBIS) is a school-wide approach to teaching behavioral expectations in the same manner as any core curriculum subject. This process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. With The Mustang Way, instructional time is more effectively used for teaching, making the overall school environment calm and conducive to learning. Research shows that students achieve at a higher level when they know school expectations and feel safe.

The success of our plan thrives on the participation of our families. The Mustang Way details clear expectations throughout our campus, putting a core emphasis on students being Ready, Responsible, and Respectful.

Students sitting at desks ready for morning lessons

Be Ready

Explicitly taught and reinforced across different school settings to ensure students are prepared to succeed each morning.

Student responsibly organizing school books at desk

Be Responsible

Encouraging personal accountability in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and during transit spaces.

Students cooperating and listening to their instructor with respect

Be Respectful

Promoting kindness, cooperation, and safety among peers, teachers, staff members, and administrators.

Support, Interventions, and Incentives

The Mustang Way plan includes elements of a traditional discipline matrix that maps out school-wide expectations, specific consequences for breaking those rules, and a system of documenting the interventions attempted. Our core mission is to reduce problem behaviors through positive support and explicit teaching of appropriate behaviors rather than through fear of punishment.

When students follow campus expectations, they are recognized by staff members and receive various incentives throughout the year, including two school-wide celebrations scheduled for all qualifying students!
